Teacher’s Grant Program
The Milwaukee Chapter of ASM-International promotes participation, growth and professional development in the field of Material Science and Engineering within the State of Wisconsin. The Ernie Guenther Memorial Fund (EGMF), is interested in receiving “Teacher’s Grant” proposals from Wisconsin elementary, middle and high school teachers. This program is aimed at promoting education on engineered materials. Proposals must be for small, classroom projects aimed at science education for grades K-12, with special focus on metals and materials whenever possible. The request should focus primarily on permanent equipment rather than only consumables. Funding may range from $500 – $1500 for these projects and may be available for one or more proposals each year. Proposals are due April 11th 2014. Please see here for more detailed information.
ASM Materials Camp 2014 for High School Students
Materials Camp is this upcoming summer from June 16-June 20, for rising high school juniors and seniors. This camp aims to excite students about science and engineering! This day camp utilizes hands-on learning principles of applied math and science along with mini-demonstrations, field trips and extensive involvement in laboratory facilities to actively explore materials science & engineering principles. Be sure to check out the flyer!
2014 MEI Failure Analysis Course
The ASM Milwaukee Chapter will be hosting a failure analysis course. This course is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice of failure analysis. Please see the attached file and register here.
Milwaukee Chapter Awarded 5 Stars
The ASM Milwaukee Chapter was presented the 5-Star Chapter Award from ASM International during Leadership Days in August. The 5-Star Award is the highest recognition that ASM International annually gives chapters for their level of activities and services to members.
About ASM International
The ASM International Society is formed for the exclusive purpose of advancing and disseminating scientific, engineering, and technical knowledge, particularly with respect to the manufacture, processing, characterization, selection, understanding, use and life-cycle of engineering materials through education, research and the compilation and dissemination of information to serve technical and professional needs and interests and to benefit the general public.
The basic mission of ASM International isto foster the understanding and application of engineered materials by gathering, processing, and dissemination of useful, reliable, technical information through forums, education, publications, and electronic media. ASM will manage its member, financial, organization and staff resources to be the leading society for engineered materials. ASM will seek to cooperate with other technical societies, when it is in the interest of ASM members. ASM is an information sharing network of personal contact among members. ASM will continue to nurture and develop this network through chapters, technical divisions, councils, committees, meetings and other forums. ASM will encourage the development of capable, well-educated materials specialists.
ASM will maintain the high quality of the technical content and the presentation format of all of its services by deployment of technical experts and peer mechanisms.
ASM’s technical scope includes all engineering materials and their research, design, reliable manufacture, use, and economic and social impacts.
The ASM International Society will actively seek and incorporate into its various services the best available technical information on engineering materials from wherever in the world it may originate and distribute that information wherever it is needed.
