ASM Materials Camp® 2012 for STEM Teachers
The ASM Materials Camp® 2012 is a one-week workshop where you will learn the basics of materials science technology as taught at the high school level. It will show you how to use low cost/no cost, simple labs and experiments using everyday materials, labs and experiments that can be integrated into your existing lesson plans. Subject areas covered are solids, metals, ceramics/glass, polymers, and composites. In addition, you will take home not only the knowledge and experience you have learned during the week of camp, but also supplies(including a NACE corrosion kit) and the STEM Handbook (a valuable reference). 54th Annual H.R. Bergmann Memorial Seminar
and April Monthly Chapter Meeting
The 54th Annual H.R. Bergmann Memorial Seminar and April Monthly Chapter Meeting on “Materials Failure Analysis adn Product Design” will be held Tuesday, April 10th 2012. Understanding how and why a product failed is imperative to the understanding of its life cycle. This event will cover obtaining this information, as it is the first step in determining a solution to what could be a problem. Scientists/engineers involved with failure analysis, research and development, material selection, process development, production, engineering, and quality control will find this event interesting. Click here for more information and to register for this event.
Milwaukee Chapter Awarded 5 Stars
The ASM Milwaukee Chapter was presented the 5-Star Chapter Award from ASM International during Leadership Days in August. The 5-Star Award is the highest recognition that ASM International annually gives chapters for their level of activities and services to members.
About ASM International
Purpose
The ASM International Society is formed for the exclusive purpose of advancing and disseminating scientific, engineering, and technical knowledge, particularly with respect to the manufacture, processing, characterization, selection, understanding, use and life-cycle of engineering materials through education, research and the compilation and dissemination of information to serve technical and professional needs and interests and to benefit the general public.
Strategy
The basic mission of ASM International isto foster the understanding and application of engineered materials by gathering, processing, and dissemination of useful, reliable, technical information through forums, education, publications, and electronic media. ASM will manage its member, financial, organization and staff resources to be the leading society for engineered materials. ASM will seek to cooperate with other technical societies, when it is in the interest of ASM members. ASM is an information sharing network of personal contact among members. ASM will continue to nurture and develop this network through chapters, technical divisions, councils, committees, meetings and other forums. ASM will encourage the development of capable, well-educated materials specialists.
Quality
ASM will maintain the high quality of the technical content and the presentation format of all of its services by deployment of technical experts and peer mechanisms.
Technical Scope
ASM’s technical scope includes all engineering materials and their research, design, reliable manufacture, use, and economic and social impacts.
Geographic Scope
The ASM International Society will actively seek and incorporate into its various services the best available technical information on engineering materials from wherever in the world it may originate and distribute that information wherever it is needed.
